How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

Are you looking to completely revamp and brighten your smile? Porcelain veneers can deliver drastic cosmetic results that can last for several years or longer. The wafer-thin shells are placed on the front of anterior (visible) teeth at our McAllen, TX dental practice. If you are looking for a trusted dental practice to brighten your smile, Top Dental has built a reputation for friendly and professional care. Whether you are seeking pain-free restorative care or the life-changing benefits of cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Joon Baek and the dental team of Top Dental are here to meet your oral and aesthetic needs.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

One question we often field at our McAllen dental practice is, “What should I expect from my porcelain veneer treatment?” Before your veneer treatment is scheduled, Dr. Baek will need to determine if you are a good candidate for veneer placement. Patients who are eligible for this cosmetic treatment are in good oral health and desire a brighter and more symmetrical smile. Once you are found to be a good candidate, your cosmetic procedure will be scheduled.

Porcelain veneer treatments typically require two visits to our state-of-the-art dental practice. During your first visit, Dr. Baek will prepare your teeth to receive the advanced cosmetic attachments. In order to achieve natural-looking results, some of the natural tooth structure of your teeth will need to be removed. This allows the wafer-thin porcelain shells to lie flush with the surface of your teeth.

Before your teeth are “prepped,” Dr. Baek will apply a local anesthetic to ensure that your procedure is comfortable and pain-free. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Baek will remove small amounts of your enamel. Then, an impression of your smile will be made and you will be fitted with temporary veneers. The mold of your teeth will be sent to a trusted laboratory that will manufacture your custom veneers to exacting standards.

After a few weeks at most, your custom veneers will arrive back at our office and a second appointment will be scheduled. On your second and final appointment, Dr. Baek will ensure that your veneers are a perfect match for your smile. Each porcelain shell is color-matched to naturally brighten your smile while blending in the with the natural color of your neighboring teeth. Your custom veneers will be placed using a very strong bonding agent that is designed to last for several years or longer when taken care of.

The final step of the cosmetic treatment involves ensuring that your porcelain veneers are a perfect fit. There is no recovery time associated with this treatment, and few patients report side effects. If you do experience temporary side effects, the most typical symptom is temperature sensitivity. Typically, any sensitivity associated with this cosmetic treatment will subside within a few days at most.

To ensure that your veneers last for several years or longer, Dr. Baek recommends maintaining good oral hygiene habits and twice-a-year visits to our McAllen dental practice for dental cleanings and exams.
